In the times of England's Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603), a "swete bagge" was often presented as a New Year gift to the Queen, enclosing coins or perfumes. These heavily embroidered and embellished purses were usually professionally made and many examples in fine condition exist in museum and private collections.
"The Queen's Sweet Bag is inspired by several of these bags, embroidered with the popular Elizabethan design of intertwined coiling stems from which sprout a variety of fanciful flowers and fruits. Thirty shades of DMC floss are used.
